Eating watercress regularly can provide health benefits such as strengthening bones and joints, improving eyesight, boosting immunity, strengthening the heart, and providing full energy.

MyFood Myanmar is sharing with food lovers how to make this healthy watercress into a delicious salad.

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch watercress (stems and leaves trimmed)
  • 1 teaspoon carrot (cut into small cubes)
  • 1/2 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon thinly sliced shallots
  • 1 piece of ginger, about an inch in diameter (thinly sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar

Step-by-step instructions

1. After thinly slicing the ginger, put it into a bowl. Then add 2 tablespoons of hot water and let it soak for about 20 minutes. When 20 minutes is up, add fish sauce, salt, sesame oil, and vinegar into the bowl and mix well.

2. Put water into a pot and bring it to a boil. Once the water is boiling, blanch the watercress and carrots for about 30 seconds.

3. Then, after draining the watercress and carrots thoroughly, transfer them into a large bowl. Add the fish sauce mixture prepared in step (2), along with the sesame seeds and shallots, and mix well.

4. After tasting to check the seasoning is balanced, place the salad into a small, upside-down bowl. Then flip the bowl onto a plate and gently remove the bowl.

And there you have it, a delicious carrot and watercress salad!
