Since Korean jjajangmyeon noodles have become popular in Myanmar too, I want to share some easy methods for making them at home.

Ingredients (serves 2-3 people)

  • Noodles for making jjajangmyeon (jjajangmyeon brand noodles)
  • 226 grams pork belly, (cut into half-inch cubes)
  • 1 cup Korean radish (cut into half-inch cubes)
  • 1 cup potato (cut into half-inch cubes)
  • 1 cup zucchini (cut into half-inch cubes)
  • 1 ½ cups onion (cut into half-inch cubes)
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon black bean paste
  • 2 tablespoons Potato Starch Powder
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • ½ cup cucumber, cut into strips for garnish
  • Water

Method

Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to a pot and fry the pork belly for 4 to 5 minutes. Fry until it turns brown and firm.

Remove the pork.

Add the radish and fry for about 1 minute.

Fry the potato, onion, and zucchini for about 3 minutes.

Push all the ingredients to the sides of the pot and clear the center.

Add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the center of the pot, add the black bean paste, and stir continuously for about 1 minute without stopping. Stir until everything is well combined.

Add 2 cups of water, cover the pot with a lid, and let it sit for about 10 minutes.

Open the lid and taste the radish and potato. If they are fully cooked, add a little water and stir.

Add the sesame oil, taste for seasoning, and add salt if needed.

Once done, pour it over the boiled noodles and garnish with cucumber before serving.
