Dish soap should only be used for washing dishes, and should (absolutely) not be used to clean other kitchen items. Doing so could end up damaging those items.
So let's take a look together at what kitchen items you shouldn't wash with dish soap.
Electric coffee maker
If you wash your coffee maker with dish soap, the taste of your coffee will change the next time you brew it. This is because dish soap doesn't get fully rinsed clean after just one wash. If you scrub and wash it repeatedly, it will also strip away the oils in the coffee that are needed for brewing.
Car
You shouldn't use dish soap to wash your car either. Doing so will damage your car's paint and strip away the protective wax coating. In addition, when the car dries after washing, the remaining soap residue left behind is extremely difficult to clean off.
Hair
Because dish soap contains a high amount of chemicals, washing your hair with it will make your scalp dry and itchy, and it will strip away all the oils needed for healthy hair.
Cast iron pan
Washing a cast iron pan with dish soap will damage its surface layer, and this could ruin the flavor of the food when you cook.
You don't need dish soap to clean a cast iron pan. After cooking, while the pan is still warm, add salt into it. Then scrub it with a paper towel. After that, rinse it with water, and your cast iron pan will be clean.
Washing vegetables and fruits
Don't wash your vegetables and fruits with dish soap just to remove dirt and chemical pesticides.
Vegetables and fruits contain tiny pores that are invisible to the eye, and soap can get trapped inside those pores. If you eat vegetables washed this way, you could experience vomiting, indigestion, and other digestive tract related illnesses.
